FAB Securities, a brokerage based in the United Arab Emirates, has maintained its rating on Saudi Arabian lender Bank Albilad after the bank reported a modest rise in second-quarter profit and strong loan growth. The decision signals confidence in the bank's ability to generate steady earnings despite some pressure on fee income and expenses.

Profit and Loan Growth in Focus

Bank Albilad posted a net profit of SAR 792 million for the three months ended June 30, 2026, up 3.4% from the same period a year earlier. The result was broadly in line with FAB Securities' expectations, according to the broker. The bank's net funded income — the money it earns from lending and investments after accounting for deposit costs and other funding expenses — rose enough to offset weaker revenue from fees and higher operating costs.

Total operating income came in at SAR 1.61 billion, slightly below the broker's forecast. That shortfall suggests that not all revenue streams are growing at the same pace, and that the bank's profitability is being supported primarily by its core lending business rather than by fee-based services.

Net advances — the total amount of loans the bank has made to customers, minus any provisions for bad debts — reached SAR 133.4 billion, a 15.3% increase year on year. That level of loan growth is a positive sign for the Saudi banking sector, as it indicates rising demand for credit from both businesses and consumers in the kingdom.

What This Means for Investors

For everyday investors, the key takeaway is that Bank Albilad continues to expand its lending book at a healthy clip, which is the main driver of its earnings. However, the slight miss on operating income and the drag from higher costs are worth watching. Banks often face pressure on margins when they have to pay more to attract deposits or when fee income slows.

The broader context matters here. Saudi Arabia's economy has been undergoing a transformation under the Vision 2030 plan, which aims to diversify away from oil and boost private-sector activity. That has spurred demand for credit, benefiting banks like Albilad. At the same time, interest rates set by the Saudi central bank, which tracks the U.S. Federal Reserve, influence how much banks can earn on loans and what they pay for deposits.

FAB Securities' decision to stick with its call suggests the broker sees the bank's fundamentals as solid enough to weather any near-term headwinds. Investors should note that analyst ratings are just one piece of the puzzle — they reflect a professional opinion, not a guarantee of future performance.

Broader Banking Trends

Bank Albilad's results come at a time when Saudi banks are generally reporting steady growth, supported by government spending and infrastructure projects. However, competition for deposits and the potential for higher provisioning costs remain risks. The bank's ability to keep growing loans while managing expenses will be a focus for analysts in the coming quarters.

In other recent earnings news, United Spirits saw a 51.6% profit surge driven by premium whiskey sales and tax changes, while HPCL posted a $1.4 billion quarterly loss as soaring crude costs squeezed margins. These contrasting results highlight how different sectors are navigating the current economic environment.

For investors tracking Saudi banks, the next key data points will be third-quarter results and any updates on interest rate policy from the U.S. Federal Reserve, which influences Saudi rates. Loan growth and net interest margins will remain the main metrics to watch.

FAB Securities' maintained call on Bank Albilad is a vote of confidence in the bank's core lending business, even as fee income and costs present challenges. For now, the broker sees enough strength in the bank's fundamentals to keep its positive stance.
