French IT services company Sopra Steria has lifted its full-year growth forecast after a strong third quarter, powered by surging demand from defense, aerospace, and cybersecurity clients. The company said quarterly revenue rose 7.9% to €1.42 billion, with organic growth accelerating to 4.3% from 3.0% in the first half of the year.

The upgrade marks the second time this year that Sopra Steria has raised its outlook. It now expects organic revenue growth of 2.5% to 3.0% for the full year, up from its previous range of 2.0% to 2.5%. The company cited resilient spending from governments and defense contractors, even as the broader European economy slows.

Defense and cybersecurity lead the way

Revenue from defense, security, and space jumped 13% in the quarter, while aeronautics also rose 13%. Cybersecurity was the standout, with revenue up 18%. These segments are benefiting from rising geopolitical tensions and increased government budgets across Europe, a trend that has been building for several years.

France, Sopra Steria's largest market, grew 6.1% in the quarter, helped by public-sector contracts. The company's exposure to government and defense clients has made it less vulnerable to the weakness seen in commercial IT spending, which has been squeezed by high interest rates and cautious corporate budgets.

Sopra Steria provides IT consulting, digital transformation, and managed services to large organizations, including many European governments and defense agencies. Its results are often seen as a bellwether for the broader European IT services sector.

What it means for investors

For everyday investors, the key takeaway is that companies with strong exposure to defense and cybersecurity are finding a reliable source of growth even as the wider economy cools. This is part of a broader trend across Europe, where earnings season is putting 2026 targets under the microscope, with investors looking for firms that can sustain momentum.

Sopra Steria's second upgrade suggests that management is confident the demand from defense and cybersecurity will continue. However, investors should note that the company's overall growth is still modest, and its performance depends on government budgets, which can be volatile. The company also faces competition from larger rivals like Capgemini and Atos, as well as from smaller specialized cybersecurity firms.

For those considering exposure to this sector, it's worth remembering that defense and cybersecurity spending is often driven by long-term contracts, which can provide revenue visibility but also tie up capital. The stock has responded positively to the news, but as with any investment, it's important to consider your own financial goals and risk tolerance.

Looking ahead, investors will be watching whether Sopra Steria can maintain its growth pace into next year, and whether other IT services firms follow with similar upgrades. The company's results also highlight the resilience of government-related spending, which could be a theme across the European earnings season.

In the meantime, the company's focus on high-growth areas like cybersecurity positions it well for the long term, even if the broader economic environment remains uncertain. As always, past performance is not a guarantee of future results, and investors should do their own research before making any decisions.
