Samsung Electronics has opened a new research center in Yokohama, Japan, dedicated to advanced chip packaging for artificial intelligence applications. The 40 billion yen (roughly $270 million) facility will employ 95 researchers and features a clean room designed to replicate real production lines, allowing the company to test and refine processes under conditions that closely match actual manufacturing.
The move underscores the growing importance of chip packaging—the process of assembling and connecting individual chips into a working unit—in the AI era.
